A theatre practitioner, Md Mahedi Tanjir completed BA (Honours) and MA in Theatre & Performance Studies, University of Dhaka. Thereafter, and also during his academic period, he got himself engaged in the practical arena of theatre, television and films in the disciplines of playwright, performer and director. Despite performing in a number of noteworthy shows, he also did scriptwriting and direction of a handsome number of plays including Bichan, based on a short story by Mahasweta Debi; performed in over 20 plays including Chaka by Selim Al Din, The Measures Taken by Bertolt Brecht, Riders to the Sea by JM Synge, The Two Executioners by Fernando Arrabal, Franz Kafka’s Metamorphosis adapted by Symon Jakareya, Mukhosh by Syed Shamsul Haq and many more. His theatre activities spanned even wider into the areas of participating in International Theatre Festival (ITI) and many other national and international festivals in the capacities of actor, director, designer, workshop conductor, and participant. He has a number of published and unpublished papers and articles. His major areas of interest are Acting and Direction in Theatre, Contemporary play and Play writing, Short story, Technologies, human psychological behaviour.
